Nature Study Entry: American Grass Spider (Agelenopsis)

Introducing:

“Agelenopsis is a genus of spiders, known as American grass spiders.[1] They weave sheet webs that have a funnel shelter on one edge. The web is not sticky, but these spiders make up for that shortcoming by running very rapidly. The larger specimens (depending on species) can grow to about 19 mm in body length.

They may be recognized by the arrangement of their eight eyes into three rows. The top row has two eyes, the middle row has four eyes, and the bottom row has two eyes (spaced wider than the ones on the top row). They have two prominent hind spinnerets, somewhat indistinct bands on their legs, and two dark bands running down either side of the cephalothorax.” Per Wikipedia.

It’s so true,  these guys sure are fast, my husband had to be quick to catch it.  I’m so glad it didn’t get away.  My brave girl and my boys just loved observing it. My youngest son, who is 6yrs. Old said, “This spider has a really big abdomen.”  I had a proud mama moment when I heard that. ☺️

When our family was done observing it, we let it go outside where it belongs.

Hopefully, we won’t see one again for a long time in our home anyway.

Here is a picture of one of their webs:

Have a wonderful day!!

Our Family’s Favorite Fall Picture Books

Happy Fall Y’all!

Fall is definitely showing itself in the weather now here in So. California.  And as I was bringing out my Fall and Winter books. I thought I would share with you our family’s favorite Fall picture books.  We have a reading nook, and I always rotate the books so they go with the season that we are in.  My kids get so happy when they see the Fall books come out and then the Christmas and Winter ones also. A post and booklist will be coming soon for Christmas and Winter picture books also.  I just love watching them sit on the floor with a stack of books, reading and looking at each book and say,
“I remember this one”,  or, “Mommy, can you please read?”  It just melts my heart!

And it’s so funny because these books have also become so special to me and my husband as well.  I just love to cuddle with them on the couch and read aloud to them.  While I read, I just look at their faces, and I can see their wheels spinning and them just imagining what I am reading to them.

All of the books that you will see down below are just a few of so many more that I have included on a list.

And of course I just had to share these special books with you, so I created a printable book list for you to download for FREE!

That way you can take it with you to the bookstore, library, use it as a wish list, and or use the list to build your own personal library at home.

I hope you enjoy these books as much as we do.  Keep scrolling down for the download link.

Writing Through The Word: The Book of Galatians

Hello Everyone!!

Fall and October are here!! The year is flying by!! Writing through the word has been such a blessing.  It’s been good spending time in the word.  Reading and writing the word and hiding it in our hearts has so many benefits.  You just never know what life is going to throw at you.  And it is so good to have the word in your heart and mind to get through the challenges that we face everyday.

You are all one in Christ Jesus.  Galations 3:28

And so here is the writing schedule for the month of October.

You can download it here:

Download “Galatians.pdf” Galatians.pdf – Downloaded 14 times – 273 KB

I also created a version of the schedule in Espanol.

You can download it here:

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.  Galations 2:20

I would love to hear how you have been doing in spending time in the word.  Believe me, I know it can be hard to keep up. I have four children under 10yrs. and it can get super crazy!!  But I know that He is my strength and my hope and how I get through my days.  Without Him I don’t know how I would do it.  Trust me I have fallen behind many times or not kept up.  So I keep going where I left off.  So just don’t stop if you missed a day or so or even a week. Just pick up where you left off.  It’s okay.  The main reason for doing this is to spend time continually getting to know our Father in heaven everyday.  I wanted to share some advice that I have learned over the years on how to keep up spending time in the word.

I hope they will be an encouragement to you and help you to keep your daily quiet time with the Lord.

  1. Gather your bible study materials, pens, bible, journal, ect., and put them in a cute basket or cute tote bag.
  2. Find a quiet place in your home, that you can go to daily, and make it a cozy cute little nook.
  3. Set a time everyday for your special time with the Lord, or a reminder on your phone or write it on your calendar as a daily appointment.
  4. Light a candle or play some worship music, get a cup of hot tea, cocoa, or coffee.
  5. Pray for your time with the Lord.

I know that all of this sounds impossible to do.  But they are just ways to encourage your quiet time.  The Lord shows each of us how we can spend our time with Him.  He honors that.  Especially when you have small children this can seem so difficult.  I have had to do it during their nap time or after they go to bed at night.  Lot’s of people recommend the early morning.  Even from way back when.  I think it is a wonderful way to start your day.  It has been challenging to me since, I am a night person.  Although in the past year I have really been trying to go to bed early and wake up early.  Nothing is set in stone on how or when you should have your quiet time.  Just go with the flow of your daily routine.  Again these are just some ideas to encourage you.

Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.  Galations 6:9

Again I really hope that these were encouraging to you.  If you already have a way of how you spend time with the Lord I would love to hear all about it.  Or any other suggestions that you have on how you spend time in the word.  Please comment below.  I can’t wait to hear all about them.  I am all ears.

May you be blessed and be strong in the Lord as you spend time with Him writing out His word this month in the book of Galatians.

In His Love,

Rachel
